This is my Preview of the ATP 250 of Chengdu (China).

Here are the average statistics of 2023, 2024 and 2025. The tournament was not held in 2020, 2021 and 2022:

Chengdu is located at an altitude of approximately 500 meters above sea level, which does influence how the ball moves through the air, potentially allowing for slightly faster conditions due to lower air resistance.

This makes Chengdu one of the fastest outdoor hard tournaments on the circuit.

Weather

From September 23–29, Chengdu will be mostly cloudy, warm and humid. The week will begin slightly cooler, with highs of 25–27°C (77–81°F), lows around 21°C (70°F) and humidity of 66–70%. Temperatures will peak over the weekend at 29°C (84°F), with lows of 22–23°C (72–73°F) and some showers possible. By Monday and Tuesday, it should become slightly cooler and drier, with highs around 27°C (81°F), humidity falling to 59–63%, and largely dry conditions. Winds will remain light throughout.

Summary

The courts are very quick.Taking the average of the last 3 years only Brisbane shows a higher percentage of first serve points won.

The humidity is a big issue here. Although no excessively high temperatures are expected, the humidity is always very high in Chengdu. In addition, no strong breeze is expected, which will make it even more uncomfortable.

The 500m. altitude will favour the big servers.

Therefore, for the matches played during the day we can expect very quick conditions, and even more if the sun shines and it's not rainy.

Moreover, these are courts where the ball bounces low, making them favorable for players with a good sliced backhand.
