's-Hertogenbosch 2026 - ATP 250 Preview

(8 - 14 June) 's-Hertogenbosch kicks off the grass season at a medium pace. Servers still hold the edge, but there's slightly more margin to play from the baseline.

's-Hertogenbosch 2026 - ATP 250 Preview

This is my preview of the ATP 250 in 's-Hertogenbosch (Libema Open), which, together with Stuttgart, marks the start of the grass-court season.

Speed Data

These are the stats of the last four years. The tournament was not hold in 2021.

  • 73.9% Points won on the First Serve
  • 83.9% Service Holds
  • 0.57 Aces/Game
  • 0.27 TB/Set

Taking all the grass tournaments into account, we can say that it falls in the medium range in terms of court speed.

Past Winners

2025: Diallo d. Bergs

2024: De Minaur d. Korda

2023: Griekspoor d. Thompson

2022: Van Rijthoven d. Medvedev

2019: Mannarino d. Thompson

Nicolas Mahut has won this tournament 3 times.

Weather

's-Hertogenbosch week looks cool, breezy, humid and occasionally wet: daytime temperatures should mostly sit around 17–22°C / 63–72°F, with mornings closer to 9–13°C / 48–55°F; wind is expected around 15–30 km/h / 9–19 mph, with stronger gusts possible; humidity should be fairly high, roughly 65–80%, with cloud cover and some showers during the week. Overall, not classic fast, hot grass-court conditions: the courts may play a bit heavier and slower than usual.

Player Statements

I haven't found any relevant statements about this tournament.

Summary

It is a grass tournament, and as such, the conditions are totally different from clay and courhard ts. It ranks in the top 11 in terms of speed when considering all tournaments.

That said, the conditions are not as fast as those of other tournaments like Stuttgart, Halle or Queens. The ball bounces a bit higher than in Stuttgart, and you can play a bit more from the baseline. The average number of shots per point is higher in s-Hertogenbosch than in Stuttgart.

This gives a bit more margin for players who are not fast court specialists to surprise players with more powerful serves, but only a bit more. If a player like Nicolas Mahut, with a classic serve-and-volley game, has won this tournament three times, it means that although the court allows for a bit more rallying, it is still a grass tournament.

So, without reaching the extreme of Stuttgart, which is almost like an ice rink, players with more powerful serves will tend to do better.

Remember that surface changes — and the switch from clay to grass is the most significant — are always tricky for players. The more time they've had to adapt, the better.
