Queen's (London) 2026 - ATP 500 Preview

Here is my preview of the ATP 500 at Queen's, London (HSBC Championships).

Speed Data

Queen's is played on very quick grass courts.

These are the statistics for the last five years:

  • 74.8% Points won on first serve
  • 84.2% Service games held
  • 0.63 Aces/Game
  • 0.21 Tie-breaks/Set

Previous winners

2025: Alcaraz d. Lehecka

2024: Paul d. Musetti

2023: Alcaraz d. De Minaur

2022: Berrettini d. Krajinovic

2021: Berrettini d. Norrie

Murray has won the tournament 5 times, and Alcaraz, Berrettini, F. López, and Cilic 2 times each.

Weather

For London the next week looks significantly warmer than the recent average. Expect temperatures mostly in the 22–30°C range (72–86°F), with the hottest conditions arriving Thursday through Sunday. Winds should generally be light to moderate, around 10–20 km/h (6–12 mph), with occasional breezier periods but nothing particularly disruptive. Relative humidity is likely to be moderate to moderately high, around 50–70%, especially as temperatures climb later in the week. Overall, the forecast points to warm, increasingly dry and fairly calm conditions, with much less wind than Halle and several days that could feel quite hot by UK standards.

Player's quotes

Mensik, 2025: "It is my first match on grass this season so it's always difficult find the rhythm and also to play against the home guy too. It was a rollercoaster match. I'm glad I finished the first set strong and even though I lost focus in the second I came back strong.”

De Minaur, 2023: "This court suits my game pretty well and hopefully I can keep it going."

Norrie, 2023: “I have played on this court before and I know what it is like on the first day, it can be quite slippery.”

Davidovich, 2023: “When you play the first match, it's always tough, because the grass is slippery and you have to be physically so strong.”

Summary

Regarding grass tournaments, we can say there are 4 groups:

  • Stuttgart is the fastest on the circuit, probably because it is at the highest altitude, about 225 meters above sea level.
  • Then there are several tournaments like Halle (120 m altitude and the second fastest according to stats from the last 2 years), Queen's, Mallorca and s-Hertogenbosch.
  • Wimbledon is somewhat slower than the previous ones. One reason could be that many matches are played and the courts tend to lose grass earlier. ???
  • Eastbourne is the slowest grass tournament.

Queens is in this second group, meaning it is a very fast grass tournament.

Apart from Andy Murray, who won 5 times, the fact that players like Feliciano López, Berrettini, or Cilic have won this tournament twice is a sign of the importance of the serve on these courts.
