Marrakech 2026 - ATP 250 Preview
(30 March - 5 April) Clay courts at nearly 500 meters altitude, no rain in the forecast. That combination makes Marrakech play faster than most clay venues.
Here is my Preview of the ATP 250 Marrakech, or the Grand Prix Hassan II Open.
Speed Data
Marrakech is played on medium-quick pace clay courts.
These are the stats of the last four years - the tournament was not held in 2021:
- 69.1% Points won on the First Serve
- 75.9% Service Holds
- 0.30 Aces/Game
- 0.15 TB/Set
Marrakech is in a second tier of clay tournaments in terms of speed conditions, below Gastad, Houston, Madrid, Geneva and Kitzbuhel.
Marrakech sits 466 meters above sea level, what is key on this regard.

Weather
Next week in Marrakech looks warm, dry and very playable overall, with average temperatures around 27.1°C/80.9°F for the daytime highs, 12.0°C/53.6°F for the nighttime lows, and a mean temperature of roughly 19.6°C/67.3°F; winds should stay fairly light at about 13.8 km/h / 8.6 mph on average, while humidity looks moderate at roughly 53% on average, so conditions should generally feel pleasant rather than oppressive. Chances of rain are very low.
Player Quotes
Bellucci, 2025 (after beating Herbert): "I am feeling good in Marrakech. He likes high bouncing conditions and coming to the net. "
Carballés, 2024: "I feel great in the conditions. It is very good weather for me. It is similar to Granada. I feel I can play my best tennis here.”
Navone, 2024: “The court in the first set was really fast, but then I managed to adapt my game.”
Muller, 2023: “The courts are softer than yesterday. It’s a bit slower so it’s difficult to hit Aces but I’m playing good.”
O'Connell, 2023: “My first time in Morocco, I love it here. It’s challenging conditions here. There is rain and a bit of altitude here but the courts are drying up.”
Summary
Marrakech being nearly 500 meters above sea level, typically makes the ball travel faster.
As I mentioned earlier, no rain is expected this week, so conditions will likely be relatively fast, with the percentage of points won on first serve on the quick side (for clay), probably close to 70%.
Therefore, all in all, expect quick conditions with a higher bounce ball for this week in Marrakech.
Keep in mind that aggressive players with a good serve who are not typical clay-court specialists can do well here.
