"The hong kong ATP 250 2026 has concluded. bublik claimed the title defeating Musetti in the final. Below is my original tournament preview."

The Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open returned in 2024 after a break of 20 years. The last edition had been held in 2002, where Juan Carlos Ferrero, Alcaraz's coach, lift the trophy. Hong Kong is played on Outdoor Hard courts.

The main draw is finalized, and the opening matches are scheduled to start in about an hour.

Statistics

These are the Stats for 2024 and 2025 (2-year average):

  • 72.5% of points won on the first serve
  • 80.2% of service games held
  • 0.54 aces/game
  • 0.21 tie-breaks/set

If we look at the Tennis Abstract Rating from last season, it shows a Surface Speed of 1.31, indicating quick conditions. In 2024, however, this index was 1.08, what aligns best with the actual statistics from the past two years.

Therefore, we can classify Hong Kong as a medium-pace hard-court tournament.

The last two winners of the tournament, Müller and Rublev, are not exactly players who love very fast courts.

Previous winners

2025: Muller d. Nishikori

2024: Rublev d. Ruusuvuori

Shang and Ofner in 2024 and Munar and Shang in 2025 were the other semifinalists of the past 2 editions.

Weather

The forecast for Hong Kong over the coming week calls for generally mild and mostly dry conditions with plenty of sunshine and only low chances of significant rain; daytime high temperatures are expected to range broadly from around 63 °F to 70 °F (17–21 °C) with overnight lows typically in the 50s °F (about 10–15 °C), and relative humidity values will mostly be moderate, often around 40 % to 60 % during the day and rising toward roughly 50 % to 70 % at night. Winds will be generally light and overall conditions should remain stable.

Player Statements

T. Johansson, Nishikori's coach, 2025: "It's a quick surface and when we came here I felt that this would be good for Kei."

I haven't been able to find more relevant statements from the players.

Summary

Medium-paced hard surfaces, and while humidity is typically high in Hong-Kong, the forecast suggests mild temperatures this week, which should be a relief for the players.

Overall, I’d classify this tournament as a textbook example of a middle-ground hard court—not too fast, not too slow.

Moreover, I’ve been watching matches from last year and I get the feeling that the ball bounces is average, not too high and not too low.

Definitely, much slower conditions than Brisbane.

Some clay court players might do well here.
